Xi Jinping’s potential visit to India for the BRICS Summit, alongside renewed high-level China–India border negotiations, could support continued engagement between the two major Asian powers and further stabilize bilateral relations.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit India to attend the BRICS Summit scheduled for September 12–13, 2026. According to reports, China is preparing a large delegation of around 400 officials and representatives for the visit. If confirmed, it would mark Xi’s first visit to India in approximately seven years.
The potential visit comes as China and India continue efforts to stabilize bilateral relations following years of tensions over their disputed border. On August 25, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval held a new round of high-level border talks in Beijing, agreeing to maintain peace along the border and continue efforts toward a mutually acceptable settlement.
Xi’s potential participation in the BRICS Summit could provide another opportunity for high-level engagement between Beijing and New Delhi and contribute to the gradual improvement of bilateral relations. However, Xi’s attendance and any possible bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remain subject to final official confirmation.
