
Vietnam fields 141 athletes at ASEAN Para Games 13. Targets 40–50 golds and a top-5 finish. Focus extends beyond medals to inclusion and resilience
Vietnam has sent a 185-member delegation, including 141 athletes, to the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, scheduled for January 15–27, 2026, according to VNA. The official send-off ceremony was led by Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, underlining state-level support for the development of para sports and regional representation.
The Games will host athletes from 11 Southeast Asian countries, covering 19 sports and 536 medal events, with a strong emphasis on inclusion and resilience. Vietnam will compete in 11 disciplines, ranging from athletics and swimming to powerlifting, chess, and fencing, with officials targeting 40–50 gold medals and a top-4 to top-5 overall ranking.
Addressing the team, Mai Van Chinh stressed the broader political and social significance of para sports, describing Vietnam’s achievements as a reflection of national determination and talent. World champion and Paralympic medallist Le Van Cong reaffirmed the athletes’ commitment to fair and confident competition. Beyond medals, Vietnam aims to strengthen foundations for future events, including the Asian Para Games and the 2028 Paralympic Games.
