The U.S. may allow the UAE to import over 1M advanced Nvidia AI chips by 2027, reversing previous restrictions. Part of the chips would go to G42, while U.S. firms like OpenAI would use the rest in regional data centers. The deal aligns with Trump’s strategy to counter China and secure $1.4T in Emirati investments.
The U.S. is considering a deal that would allow the United Arab Emirates to purchase over 1 million advanced Nvidia AI chips by 2027, Bloomberg reported. This would mark a major shift from Biden-era restrictions on the export of such technologies to the Middle East due to security concerns.
Under the proposed agreement, around 500K chips would be exported annually. 20% would go to Abu Dhabi’s state-backed G42, while the rest would support projects by American firms like OpenAI that are building AI data centers in the UAE. The chips would be used for both research and commercial development.
The deal is part of a broader strategy by the Trump administration to deepen tech ties with allies in the Middle East and counter China’s growing influence in global AI development. As part of the arrangement, the UAE has also pledged to invest $1.4T in the U.S. economy to ensure long-term access to critical technologies.
