South Africa’s ambitious economic reform plan focuses on infrastructure, job creation, and global leadership through BRICS and the G20.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled an ambitious reform plan in his State of the Nation Address, focusing on job creation, poverty reduction, and infrastructure investment worth 94 billion rand. He emphasized strengthening South Africa’s global role through the G20 chairmanship and highlighted the _BRICS Bridge_ as a key strategy to foster economic cooperation among emerging economies. Writing from Cape Town on February 6 at the time of his State of the Nation Address, Ramaphosa pleaded for unity and exercises in collaboration to make South Africa a flourishing nation over the next three decades. His plan is anchored on the Medium-Term Development Plan, which seeks to create jobs, reduce poverty and develop a capable and ethical developmental state. But with an infrastructure investment of 94 billion rand over the next couple of years, bold road map to lay the foundation for unlocking economic opportunities through future economic growth and the strengthening public services. During South Africa’s term as chair of the G20, Ramaphosa pledged to be an advocate for Africa and the Global South in global affairs, an indication that South Africa is prepared to exercise global leadership and help to shape global governance. Moreover, through the BRICS Bridge, South Africa aims to strengthen strategic partnerships among emerging economies, fostering trade, technology exchange, and financial cooperation that could redefine the Global South’s role in the international economic order.

But this is not just a numbers and policies vision. Ramaphosa emphasized that social security and empowerment of the economy — particularly marginalized communities — would be top of the agenda. His vision of a country based on empathy, solidarity and responsibility for others also rang as he unveiled plans to improve the delivery of public services and scale up key infrastructure projects. These initiatives, in his view, will not only support the economy, but will also change lives for regular South Africans, and pave the way for a society in which opportunity and progress are accessible to all. Ramaphosa’s roadmap is the road to prosperity and transformation, based on inclusion and fairness.

The president’s speech also highlighted South Africa’s aspirations as a world player. Through its backing of the African Union’s transformative agenda and by participating in peacekeeping forces across the continent, South Africa has established itself as the pillar of peace on the African continent. According to Ramaphosa, with focused foreign relations and expertise on regional alliances, the country could set an example for developing economies across the globe. His final message was unequivocal: united in purpose, and with resolve, South Africa can create a future that every individual in the nation participates in benefiting from, ushering in a new era of hope, progress, and courageous governance.
