Shenzhen in Guangdong province has inaugurated two new lines, extending its metro network to 609.6 kilometers with 428 stations. The expansion includes a branch of Line 6 and an extension of Line 16, both launched in trial operation.

The 9.54-kilometer Line 16 extension features three stations built entirely with prefabricated construction methods. This approach has significantly reduced steel and timber use, minimized construction waste, and lowered carbon emissions.

Project managers stated that adopting advanced technologies such as prefabrication and Building Information Modeling (BIM) could serve as a model for other cities in the Greater Bay Area. By 2030, Shenzhen’s metro system is expected to surpass 800 kilometers in total length.
