The Ulyanovsk–Astara shipping route represents a new phase in Russia–Iran trade cooperation. It is intended to streamline logistics and broaden the range of exchanged goods. Operations are scheduled to start in early 2026, strengthening regional trade connectivity.

Russia and Iran are planning to launch a new shipping route linking the Ulyanovsk region in Russia with the northern Iranian port city of Astara in 2026. The project aims to expand bilateral trade and establish a more efficient logistics connection between the two countries.

The plan was discussed during talks between officials from the Ulyanovsk regional administration and representatives of Iran’s Gilan Province. Both sides highlighted the economic value of the route, particularly its role in facilitating direct trade flows and lowering transportation costs.

Under the proposed framework, Ulyanovsk is expected to export agricultural products such as grain and vegetable oils, while Iran would supply petrochemicals, plastics, tea, and citrus fruits to Russian markets. The first shipments are expected to begin in early 2026.
