Russia China energy cooperation coal exports Arctic LNG forum

Russia plans coal exports exceeding 100M tons to China. Energy ties expand across coal, oil, and gas sectors. China remains a key partner in Arctic LNG projects.

Russia plans to export over 100M tons of coal to China, reflecting deepening energy cooperation between the two countries, according to statements by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak at the Russian–Chinese Energy Business Forum. Russia remains one of the world’s leading coal producers, while China is the largest global consumer, creating strong grounds for expanded trade.

Novak noted that Moscow sees clear prospects not only for higher coal exports but also for supplying processed coal products to the Chinese market. He added that bilateral cooperation is also advancing in the supply of equipment and services for the oil and gas sector, strengthening industrial and technological ties between the two energy powers.

In parallel, Russia is discussing the expansion of oil exports to China. Novak stated that Russia already accounts for over 20% of China’s oil imports, ranking among its top suppliers. He also confirmed that major Chinese companies are partners in Russia’s largest Arctic LNG projects, underscoring long-term strategic alignment in energy development.
