Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening health systems and domestic capacity at the 15th BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting in Brazil. Dr. Iziaq Salako highlighted the importance of international cooperation to tackle global health challenges like pandemics and antimicrobial resistance.

Nigeria’s health reform focuses on local drug production, revitalizing primary care, and expanding health insurance. The country vaccinated over 14 million girls against HPV and allocated $200 million to sustain HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria programs.

Nigeria will host the next BRICS ministerial meeting on antimicrobial resistance in June 2026 and called for deeper collaboration among BRICS nations in vaccine production, phytomedicine, and biomedical research to strengthen Africa’s health resilience.
