Egypt university students competing in national sports league events

Egypt expanded university sports programmes in 2025, engaging over 233 K students nationwide. National championships and the first University League featured diverse sports disciplines and heavy participation. The push is part of the “100 Days of Sport” initiative to foster health and competitive participation across campuses.

Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohamed Ayman Ashour, announced that university and institute sports programmes expanded nationwide in 2025, with record student participation in competitive events and structured leagues. More than 233 K students engaged in internal competitions covering a broad range of sports across the country.

The 52nd Egyptian Universities and Institutes Championship saw participation from 75 institutions, and Egypt launched its first official University League, featuring team and individual competitions in disciplines like crossfit, gymnastics, archery, esports, boxing, kung fu, speedball, and bowling with over 9 K athletes competing.

The expansion aligns with the “100 Days of Sport” initiative under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s human development programme to promote student fitness, fair competition, and health, involving 41 universities and 512 sporting events attended by more than 103 K students nationwide.
