Ain Sokhna Port basin with 19-metre depth in Egypt

Ain Sokhna Port in Egypt set a Guinness World Record with a 19 m deep artificial basin. The award was presented to Egypt’s transport minister in recognition of port expansion. The development strengthens Egypt’s role as a strategic Red Sea logistics hub.

Egypt’s Ain Sokhna Port has been officially certified by Guinness World Records for having the deepest man-made port basin constructed on land, reaching a depth of 19 metres, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Industry and Transport.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir received the Guinness certificate during a ceremony at Ain Sokhna, highlighting the port’s rapid expansion and strategic importance within the Suez Canal Economic Zone as a key logistics and trade hub on the Red Sea.

Officials noted that this achievement supports Egypt’s broader plan to strengthen its position in global supply chains, accommodate larger vessels, and link port infrastructure with multimodal transport networks.
