On May 19, 2025, the “China-Pakistan Enterprise Docking Conference” and the “BRICS Innovation Base Promotion Conference” were successfully held at the Science and Technology Park of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). The event aimed to deepen industrial coordination and build a joint development agenda between China and Pakistan. More than 100 representatives from government agencies, industry, academia, and research institutions from both countries participated. The conference was co-hosted by the BRICS Innovation Base, ApexBrasil, UFRJ, and its Science Park.
Zhuang Rongliang, Deputy Mayor of Xiamen and Director of the BRICS Innovation Base, emphasized in his speech the complementary strengths of China and Brazil in clean energy, high-end manufacturing, and the digital economy. He highlighted that the Innovation Base has become the second most significant BRICS cooperation platform after the New Development Bank and called this docking event a new beginning for deeper China-Pakistan collaboration.
Four formal cooperation agreements were signed during the event, including an MoU between the BRICS Innovation Base and UFRJ to enhance joint research, talent development, and project collaboration. Additional business deals were made in sectors such as coffee trade, green energy, and raw materials. Notably, Xiamen Construction Development Group signed a $500M agreement with Brazil’s National Steel Company to trade 500K tons of iron ore over five years. This event marked a key step in advancing practical cooperation and sustainable development under the BRICS framework.
