BRICS nations collaborate to boost global food security through sustainable agriculture, innovation, and a proposed grain exchange.

BRICS, producing nearly 40% of the world’s grain, is deepening agricultural cooperation through its 2021–2024 Action Plan to boost sustainable farming, improve water efficiency, and support small farmers. Recent initiatives, including discussions on a BRICS grain exchange and Russia’s advancements in fertilizers and machinery, underline their commitment to global food security. These efforts, part of the “BRICS Bridge,” aim to drive innovation and establish BRICS as a key player in a more food-secure future.

BRICS bridge- In a bid to combat global challenges and enhance food security globally, the BRICS countries are deepening cooperation in agriculture. Nearly 40% of the world’s grain is produced within the BRICS block, where the Agricultural Cooperation Action Plan (2021–2024) further accelerates sustainable development, increases the efficiency and effectiveness of water resources, and promotes the sustainable development of small and medium-sized farms.

Last week, Russia was host to the BRICS Agriculture Ministers Meeting, where the establishment of a BRICS grain exchange and the deepening of international cooperation were at the forefront. Moreover, Russia’s expertise in fertilizers and agricultural machinery reinforced the narrative that BRICS is prepared to offer novel solutions to meet world food security needs.

These initiatives, underpinning the “BRICS Bridge” towards a more sustainable future, are set to immensely improve global food security. Through connecting competencies and driving innovation, BRICS is establishing itself as a transformative force of agriculture and a new major stakeholder for a more food-secure future in the world.
