BRICS agriculture ministers sign a joint declaration to improve food security, sustainable farming, and empower small-scale farmers.

BRICS approved a joint declaration focused on food security, sustainable agriculture, and resilience-building from 2025 to 2028. Key points include land restoration, digital trade facilitation, and inclusive support for small-scale farmers. The plan aims to transform agriculture into a force for global development and equity.

Brics bridge- In Brasília, where BRICS agriculture ministers gathered, a bold joint declaration was born—one that could redefine the global food security agenda. The three-year action plan, approved on April 17, sets out to strengthen national food reserves, invest in infrastructure, and boost resilience in the face of rising global hunger. It signals BRICS’ serious intent to shape a future where no one goes hungry.

A standout highlight was the launch of the “BRICS Partnership for Land Restoration”—an ambitious initiative to revive degraded lands and promote sustainable farming. Alongside this, the declaration pushes for easier trade in agricultural goods through digital certification and the removal of trade barriers, opening a smoother route for food flow between member states.

But the heart of the declaration lies in its human focus: empowering small-scale farmers, women, and youth. With innovation and low-carbon technologies as its engine, BRICS aims to turn agriculture from a fragile sector into a driving force for sustainable development, job creation, and food justice.
