Bohai Sea offshore oilfield Qinhuangdao 29-6 China

China’s Bohai Sea yielded its seventh major oilfield discovery, boosting offshore reserve capacity. The Qinhuangdao 29-6 site holds about 100 M t of crude and shows promising well output potential. The development strengthens national energy security through advanced exploration techniques.

China has announced the discovery of a new oil field in the Bohai Sea, marking the seventh consecutive large oilfield find in the region since 2019. The new field, identified as the Qinhuangdao 29-6 oilfield, lies in shallow Neogene formations and is estimated to hold about 100 M tonnes of crude oil, reinforcing China’s offshore energy base.

The discovery was reported by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) and highlights continued advances in exploration techniques using modern migration and accumulation methods. Tests suggest that a single well in the field can produce around 370 t of crude oil per day, indicating strong production potential.

Strengthening offshore reserves is seen as strategically important for China’s energy security, with Bohai Sea developments contributing significantly to the country’s overall crude output. The field adds to a long series of discoveries that position Bohai as a key center of China’s oil and gas exploration.
